About

John McPherson is the ‘Happy Garden Warrior’ behind Happy Gardens.

As we look to our outdoor spaces as additional rooms to our homes – places to increase our well-being – John’s approach is to design a garden with your happy needs in mind.

John studied Horticulture and Design at Plumpton College in Sussex, but his passion for gardening is life-long. According to his mother his first word… was ‘Flower’. Brought up in Canada he has experience of a wide variety of gardens: from the suburban lawns of Toronto, to a wilderness cabin patch on Lake Ontario, to a balcony in London and – at present – a beautifully secret mid-century hideaway garden on the edge of Brighton and the South Downs.

But John is also hugely experienced in The Arts, as a Relationship Manager to organisations such as, Charleston Farmhouse and formerly as Head of Business Development at CASS Sculpture Park. These roles give John a unique perspective – and experience in – understanding and developing extraordinarily creative outdoor spaces.
